(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A parent is calling on the Cedar Rapids School Board to change its policies.

John Thompson told the Cedar Rapids School Board on Monday night that his five-year-old daughter walked out of Pierce Elementary unattended and unnoticed Monday, August 26.

He says his daughter made it all the way to 42nd Street before a stranger picked her up and brought her home.

According to Thompson, he wasn't notified about his daughter being missing until ten minutes after she was brought home.

The school district says they are currently investigating to help identify the gaps in their safety procedures.
