(Des Moines, IA) -- The Satanic Temple of Iowa says a new state capitol policy hinders diverse religious expression.
A policy change at the Capitol allows only single-day events, and limits organizations to one event per year.
The Temple had a two-day reading scheduled for September 16th at the state Capitol, and an annual resource fair aimed at helping homeless veterans. Both now face cancellation, or relocation.
Several people reacted unfavorably to a Satanic Temple display in the capitol rotunda last December, including an unsuccessful Republican candidate for Mississippi’s state House of Representatives, who was charged under Iowa hate crime laws for vandalizing the display.
