(Lincoln, NE) -- A school choice measure will appear on the November ballot in Nebraska. The Secretary of State's Office certified the petition on school choice Thursday.
If approved by voters, it would repeal a measure that designates10-million dollars for Nebraska students to help cover the costs of attending a private school. The school choice program provides scholarships to students to attend qualifying private schools, including parochial schools, with a high priority for students in foster care, students experiencing bullying or harassment, and students in need of special education as well as low-income and lower-middle-class families.
According to a press release from the Nebraska Secretary of State's Office, there are three ballot issues that have met the 100% signature threshold required for verification and certification, and will qualify for the November General Election ballot once verification and certification has been completed:
- Nebraska Medical Cannabis Patient Protection initiative petition
- Nebraska Medical Cannabis Regulation initiative petition
- Private Education Scholarship partial referendum.
The Elections Division has not certified the petitions yet.
