A 12-year-old has been charged with making threats toward schools in Atlantic.

Police say threats were posted on social media that named two buildings in the district as targets.

After investigating, police said the threat was not credible, and traced the posts back to a 12-year old. They've been taken into custody and to a juvenile detention center.

Atlantic Police say they'll have an increased presence at buildings in the district the rest of this week.

In a statement, the Atlantic Community School District said, "We want to send our sincere gratitude to the Atlantic Police Department and Cass County Sheriff's Department for taking charge of this situation immediately. The safety of our students and staff are always our top priority. Working together with local law-enforcement agencies reinforces a strong sense of community and care".
