(Iowa City, IA) -- Several parents showed up to the Iowa City Community School District board meeting Tuesday to express their opposition to a plan to reorganize schools.

A concerned parent said she, and many other parents, were in tears when she read the September 3rd email outlining the District's plan to pair up grades from different schools in single buildings.

The plan also includes repurposing underutilized schools to create academies offering specialized programs, such as STEM or Performing Arts.

Superintendent Matt Degner says the reorganization needs to happen due to an enrollment cliff that has cost the District 16-million dollars in funding.
