Des Moines Police Investigate Three Homicides on Sunday

(Des Moines, IA) -- It has been a bloody weekend in Iowa's capital city as Des Moines Police are investigating at least three different homicides occurring early Sunday.

Police found three people with gunshot wounds near the corner of Court Avenue and Water Street at just after 2 a.m. According to witnesses, there was a verbal argument between the three.

Police say a 29-year-old male was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Two others were transported to a hospital in critical condition, where a 34-year-old male victim later died.

Separately, Des Moines Police are investigating a homicide case near Mercy Hospital.. Officers found the victim was suffering from a gunshot would and had crashed into a retaining wall near 2nd and University at around 5:30 a.m. DMPD says they believe the man was trying to drive himself to the emergency room after being shot. Des Moines Fire Department medics transported the patient to a local hospital where he later died. Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek says Evidence indicates that the persons involved are known to each other and this is an isolated incident, also saying there is no connection to homicide investigation at Court Avenue and Water Street.

According to Des Moines Police, these are the city's 9th, 10th, and 11th homicides of the year.
