Cedar Rapids Man Charged In Marion High Speed Crash

(Marion, IA) -- A Cedar Rapids man is facing charges in an August crash in Marion, that resulted in serious injuries. Police say on August 20th, 38-year-old Rickey Brooks was traveling his Dodge Challenger 116 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on Highway 100. Police say a minivan, driven by 77 year old Walker Kelley of Marion attempted to turn from 44th Street onto the Highway, not realizing Brooks was traveling twice the posted speed limit. Kelley's mini van was struck broadside by Brooks' car.

Police say both drivers were injured and transported to local hospitals.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 100, as well as both north and southbound lanes of 44th

Street (south of 3rd Avenue), were closed for several hours due to the collision.

Brooks has been cited with Excessive Speed, Driving with a Suspended License, Reckless Driving,

and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance.

Both drivers have since been released from the hospital.
