(Omaha, NE) -- The Omaha City Council did not override Mayor Jean Stothert's veto of fire department funding today. The vote ended 3-3, so the override does not pass. The council resolution would guarantee funding for 18 new firefighters for the Omaha Fire Department if a grant for the money is not approved. There were discussions on both sides for whether or not the resolution would hurt the city's chance at the grant. There is agreement that there will be more firefighters next year and it is just a matter of how it will be funded.
