(Des Moines, IA) -- Efforts continue to find a new Chief of Police in Des Moines. The Des Moines Civil Service Commission has certified a list of eligible candidates for the position. The list has been transmitted to the City Council and now is available to the public.
The search has been underway since current Police Chief Dana Wingert announced his retirement this spring.
"Finding the right leader for the Des Moines Police Department is a top priority for our community,” City Manager Scott Sanders said. “This hiring process has provided concrete and constructive input from our community and colleagues and what they are looking for in the next chief of the Des Moines Police Department. We are looking for a chief who has a vision, the ability to build strong community relationships and the leadership to guide through the rapidly evolving future of law enforcement."
The list of certified candidates includes:

- David Ness
- Joshua Wallace
- Marcus Kinnard-Bing
- Ryan Doty
- James Smith
- Michael McTaggart
- Ronald Walsh
The next step in the process will be virtual interviews followed by in-person interviews in early October.
