UPDATE: One of Two DMPD Officers Shot Monday Released from Hospital

(Des Moines, IA) -- An update on the two Des Moines Police officers shot after trying to stop a driver early Monday morning on the city's east side.

Police say the driver refused to stop and led officers on a short chase before crashing, pulling a gun, and firing at police. One officer was hit in the arm, and another was hit in the head. The officer who was hit in the arm has been released from the hospital. The officer who was shot in the head has been stabilized but remains in critical condition.

The suspect was killed Monday morning when officers returned fire.
