(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Another water main break in Cedar Rapids has led to the death of over a thousand fish in McLoud Run.

It's the second time this year that a spill has contaminated Iowa's only urban trout stream. A similar instance occurred in January killing hundreds of trout.

The city is implementing sensor technology to prevent future occurrences, but will likely face a fine for the damage.

Another break killed over a thousand trout in March 2023.

The Iowa DNR plans to restock the stream with brown trout in November.
