(Clive, IA) -- A Webster City, Iowa woman has claimed a $1 million lottery prize. The Iowa Lottery says Lynne Kannuan purchased her ticket for the August 5th Powerball drawing August 5th. Kannuan says she got a message from a friend who noticed someone in Webster City won $1 million in the drawing, so she checked her ticket and realized she had won a large prize.
Kannuan said she immediately told her husband and adult sons, and consulted a lawyer and financial planner. She says they plan to pay off bills, invest and share some with family. Lynne says she's planning on getting a newer car.
Kannuan and her husband both immigrated as children to the United States from Laos.
She bought her winning ticket at Fareway, in Webster City, which received a $1,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $1 million-winning ticket.
