(Iowa City, IA) -- Iowa City is backtracking on recent parking rate increases.
The city is dropping metered parking rates downtown from $3 to $2.25 an hour after opposition from businesses and residents.
A new monthly evening/weekend permit is also being rolled out.
Iowa City Council doubled some parking rates in July to cover maintenance costs and the city’s free transit program.
Iowa City says they'll lose $300,000 in revenue as a result of the rate drop.
