A mosquito pool in Washington County is testing positive for West Nile virus.
The Three Rivers Public Health Department, which covers Dodge, Saunders, and Washington Counties, says it’s the district’s first positive result for WNV. The department says it's been testing mosquito pools and dead birds for the virus throughout the summer months.
The health department recommends using insect repellants with DEET and removing standing water where mosquitos are breeding to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.
