(Iowa City, IA) -- Johnson County residents are being asked to approve a new 30-million dollar conservation bond at the polls this November. The new bond replaces a 20-million dollar bond that a County Supervisor says allowed for substantial investment in the county.

Rod Sullivan, chair of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors says "since 2008, we've had all kinds of incredible projects that are a result of that. We preserved some really ecologically fragile land. We built about 10 miles worth of trails. We purchased over 1,000 acres of land that really needed to be preserved.”

The bond would allow the county to fund more land acquisitions, trail expansions, and environmental improvements. It needs 60-percent approval to pass.
