(East Moline, IL) -- East Moline Police say they are investigating the case involving human remains found in the Mississippi River last week as a homicide.
The Rock Island County Coronor's Office is identifying the remains as belonging to a male, but aren't releasing the preliminary cause of death.
DNA has been sent to the Illinois State Police lab while the remains have been sent to Springfield for a skeletal autopsy.
Police say the pickup containing the remains was found in the river near the Empire Park boat ramp on the border of East Moline and Hampton.
The Coroner's Office says it could take 3 to 6 months for DNA results to come back from the lab.
