At their meeting in Kearney next week, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents is scheduled to consider allowing alcohol sales and consumption at all University of Nebraska athletic events.

If approved, university leaders would be able to sell alcohol at athletic events once they have a plan, without coming back to the Board for case-by-case consideration and approval.

Pending approval next week, Husker Athletics intends to move forward with plans to offer alcohol at athletic events for the 2025-2026 season, including Big Red football and volleyball games beginning next fall.

Two years ago, the Board amended its policy regarding alcohol on university property to allow alcohol at designated athletic events, as long as the administration would come back to the Regents for approval for each individual event or venue.

Since then, the Board has approved alcohol sales at Pinnacle Bank Arena for UN-L men’s and women’s basketball, as well as Haymarket Park for Husker baseball and softball.

The regents approved alcohol sales at the 2022 Big Ten Wrestling Championships at PBA, and at Volleyball Day in Memorial Stadium last year.

Alcohol has long been sold at UNO Maverick hockey games at Baxter Arena.

UN-L is the only Big Ten school not currently approved to sell alcohol at football games.

The regents will meet on Friday, Oct. 4th at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in Room 120 of the Regional Engagement Center, located just south of U.S. Highway 30 on the UNK campus.
