A street racing and reckless driving sting operation in Douglas County leads to 23 citations and the impounding of several cars.
"Reckless driving is one of the top complaints we get from citizens, and so we want to be responsive," Sheriff Aaron Hanson tells KFAB Radio News. "It also kills more people every year than homicides, so we're gonna continue with these operations, and we're gonna go to the State of Nebraska to see if we can get grant funding to do even more."
Hanson says the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Community Action Team is dedicated to issues like this.
Over the weekend, they cited people for running red lights, driving under suspension or no license at all, plus no valid registration, excessive noise, and several tickets for speeding.
According to deputies, one driver was going 91 miles an hour on city streets, worth a $424 dollar fine.
