(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Cargill workers in Cedar Rapids are on strike. Around 100 members of Teamsters Local 238 set up picket lines at the corn and soybean milling plant on 16th Street Southeast around 5 p.m. yesterday after an impasse over a $3-an-hour pay increase.
Teamsters Local 238 Business Agent Scott Punteney tells Iowa's News Now that despite Cargill's record profits in recent years, employee wages have not kept pace with local competitors.
Cargill says revenues are down 10% this year, but they remains open to further negotiations.
