(West Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines University Clinic and West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services are teaming up in an event today to improve emergency responses in a sports setting, specifically on the ice rink at MidAmerican Energy's RecPlex.
Athletic trainers from Des Moines University will be at the 4:00 p.m. event to help first responders learn how to smoothly and effectively transfer an injured athlete from the scene of an emergency to medical care.
The Deputy Chief of West Des Moines EMS, Brian Rayhons, says the training on the RecPlex's ice rink gives first responders important experience for when they need to respond to a real emergency.
