Trio Nabbed In Western Nebraska After 130 MPH Chase

(Cheyenne County, NE) -- Three Colorado residents are in custody after a high speed chase on I-80 in western Nebraska. The Nebraska State Patrol says a trooper tried to pull over a car in Sidney just after 1 o'clock this (Thursday) morning, but the driver sped away, reaching speeds of 130-miles per hour. The NSP says a trooper used stop sticks and the car went into a ditch. Troopers took two men and one woman into custody just before the car caught fire and ignited live ammunition in the vehicle. The Sidney Fire Department was called to put out the fire, which spread to a nearby field.

The three are facing drug and weapons charges.

The driver, John Harmon, 32, of Sterling, Colorado, was arrested for flight to avoid (felony) and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. Passenger Kyrie Riggle, 38, of Sterling, Colorado, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (meth). The second passenger, Dakota Schrecengost, 22, of Sterling, Colorado, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and had a warrant.
