(Des Moines, IA) -- There is now a burn ban in 48 Iowa counties. There are four more counties still set to join.

The ban is due to dry weather conditions. Central Iowa has received just over half an inch of rain in September, well below the average three inches.

The lack of rainfall has heightened fire risks across the state.

For updated information on burn bans, residents are encouraged to visit the State Fire Marshal's website.
