(Iowa City, IA) -- Johnson County employees are taking part in an initiative to promote local food purchasing.
They sampled local apples yesterday at the Great Apple Crunch--a nationwide event to encourage businesses and institutions to buy food from local growers.
Johnson County Local Food Assistant, Maddie McCabe tells Iowa's News Now "we definitely hope that having an event like the Great Apple Crunch raises awareness about local products available, especially local apples around this time of year. And encourages people to look into who are their local producers and where local food is coming from."
