(Rock Island, IL) -- The Biden Administration has put a 10-year deadline in place for municipalities to replace lead water supply lines.

Rock Island has been working with Augustana College to identify lead water lines in the city.

Despite attempts by the city to acquire funding, residents may still be on the hook for some of the cost.

Rock Island Utilities Superintendent Jason Upton tells WQAD News 8 the cost citywide will be in the millions. He says the city is working on a cost-sharing plan with homeowners.

Upton says lead water line replacement could cost nearly ten thousand dollars per household.
