Omaha Area Electrical Workers Returning From Hurricane Zones

The 16-person Omaha Public Power District mutual aid team that's been helping with power restoration in the hurricane-ravaged southeast is returning home.

The Nebraska crews' service finished up on Sunday working with the Orlando Utilities Commission.

The O-P-P-D group of four three-person line crews, a safety coordinator, a supervisor, and two transportation mechanics left Nebraska Sept. 28th and began service with Appalachian Power two days later.

They spent about six days helping that utility restore power in West Virginia and Virginia after Hurricane Helene, and then headed to Orlando, Florida to await Hurricane Milton.

They spent three days helping the Orlando Utilities Commission restore service to about 83,400 customers.

The extent of damage and power outages were less than had been expected, and their work wrapped up Sunday after about three days.
