Train And Car Collision Leaves One Person Dead In Southeastern Iowa

(Washington, CO) -- Iowa State Patrol are investigating after a collision between a car and a train in southeastern Iowa left one person dead.

ISP says at around 1:50 a.m., a Ford Fusion traveling southbound ran a stop sign at the railroad crossing in the 2400 block of Spruce Avenue, roughly two miles west of Ainsworth and was struck by a westbound train.

The car came to a rest in the west ditch and driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

No names have been released.
