(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A judge is dismissing a second lawsuit filed by the mother of a nurse killed by two inmates at an Anamosa prison.

The first lawsuit was tossed last year because the victim's estate was closed.

This time a judge ruled that a wrongful death claim can only be brought by the deceased's estate, not a surviving relative.

Lorena Schulte of Cedar Rapids and correctional officer Robert McFarland, of Ely were killed at the prison in March of 2021.
