(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Students in Cedar Rapids will soon have two new schools to attend.

The Community School District is approving replacement of Hoover and Van Buren elementary schools with new buildings at the same sites.

CRCSD Director of Operations Chad Schumacher tells Iowa's News Now, "we are looking at replacing those buildings due to enrollment increases on that side of town. We've seen a very large enrollment increase, and we also see the trends continuing into the future."

The new schools will hold about 600 students each at a cost of 30-million dollars a piece.

The existing Hoover and Van Buren will remain open until construction of the new schools is complete in Fall 2027.
