(Des Moines, IA) -- Parking changes are coming to Gray's Lake in Des Moines. Daniel Calvert with the City of Des Moines says crews will close the southwest parking lot starting Monday (October 21st). "That continues to be closed through 2026, and the reason being, is we're actually going to be using that as a detour for the larger second phase improvement which is the dock and marina improvement."

Calvert says crews plan to reconstruct the area and prepare it for dock and marina improvements. He says work will also be done on the trails.

"We're going to be providing some new trail work for the Kruidenier Trail, along back side of the Christine Hensley Terrace," Calvert said, "then we're raising up the trail in front of the terrace so that it becomes more resilient and flood resistant."

While the southwest lot is closed, visitors will have access to the other lots.
