(Rock Island, IL) -- A U.S. Representative from Illinois says Deere & Company can afford to take better care of their workers in their hometown.

Illinois 17th Congressional District Representative Eric Sorensen cited seven billion dollars in Deere profits, and a 410-dollar share price for the comments made in a press release Wednesday.

Deere says they'll be laying off another 287 production workers at their Quad Cities manufacturing facilities January 3rd.

Sorensen met with Deere leadership in August and says he was told the company was not planning any additional layoffs.

Deere says these jobs losses are a result of slowing sales not production adjustments that have seen the company eliminate 15-hundred jobs in Iowa and Illinois since May.
