The State Department of Labor reports Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate for September is 2.7 percent, seasonally adjusted.
That is unchanged from August and is up 0.2 percentage points from the September 2023 rate of 2.5 percent.
The national unemployment rate for September is 4.2 percent.
The Labor Department's Scott Hunzeker tells KFAB Radio News the big growth in September is largely due to education, with school underway, and non-farm manufacturing continues to be a high-growth industry.
He says normal, seasonal losses are seen in leisure and hospitality, with a drop in retail trade, though that is expected to pick back up with Christmas approaching.
