(Undated) -- Dry conditions are expanding in Iowa. This week's U-S Drought Monitor Map shows nearly all of Iowa (83%) in moderate drought. Parts of northeast and western Iowa (19%) are in severe drought. A large part of southern Iowa is considered abnormally dry.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon and tonight. A few strong storms are possible with large hail being the main severe weather threat. Parts of central and southern Iowa could get one inch or more of rainfall.
