(Bettendorf, IA) -- A former eastern Iowa doctor has been found liable for the death of a patient.

A Scott County jury is awarding $1.6-million to the daughter of Steven Schwartz, a welder from LeClaire.

The jury determined Dr. Michelle Sprengelmeyer from Tipton failed to follow UI Healthcare's orders for treatment of a post-surgical MRSA infection contracted by Schwartz after he underwent surgery to insert spinal support hardware.
