Police Officer Chases Fleeing Suspect from Gas Station

(Fort Dodge, IA) -- A stolen car case turned into nearly a maranthon chase for police in northwest Iowa.

The Fort Dodge Police Department says a car that had been left running outside of a gas station was stolen by the supsect. A police officer who had also been inside of the gas station at the time saw what had happened, and ran to his patrol vehicle and followed the fleeing car. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, resulting in a chase that reached high speeds.

Police say the car evenutally crashed at the corner of S 20th Street and 1st Ave S in Fort Dodge, after which the supect fled on foot.

Officers eventually caught up with 47-year-old Billy Conner of Linden, Wisconsin. He was taken into custody and faces several charges:

  • Theft 1st ( Felony)
  • Eluding (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving (Simple Misdemeanor)
  • Driving While License Denied, Suspended, Cancelled, or Revoked (Simple Misdemeanor)
