Arrest In Fatal Papillion Crash

(Omaha, NE) -- An arrest is made in a single-vehicle crash that killed 26-year-old Juan Guillen last month in Papillion.

At approximately 1:10 a.m. on October 11, 2024, deputies from the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office and Papillion Fire & Rescue responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Richland Drive and Glenn Street in the Westmont subdivision of Papillion.

Deputies discovered a 2021 Ram 1500 pickup truck against a tree in the median with extensive damage.

The driver, 37-year-old Wade Harvey, sustained serious injuries and was transported to CHI Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy by Papillion Fire & Rescue. Guillen, the passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Harvey was traveling southbound on Richland Drive at a high rate of speed. A nearby home surveillance camera captured footage of the vehicle traveling at excessive speed, followed by the sound of a loud crash. Tire marks at the scene corroborate the video evidence.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be a contributing factor in this crash. The investigation into the role of alcohol in the crash was hindered by Mr. Harvey's refusal to comply with a search warrant on the night of the crash. Subsequent search warrants were necessary to complete the involvement of alcohol piece of the investigation.

On November 7, 2024, Wade Harvey was arrested for Motor Vehicle Homicide, a Class II felony, by the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office Warrants Unit.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office at (402) 593-1546.
