(Undated) -- NBC News has called Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District race for Don Bacon, who has won his 5th term in office. The incumbent Republican had declared victory Wednesday in a post on X.
Bacon had been in a close race with former State Senator Tony Vargas of Omaha. It was a rematch from 2022, when Bacon defeated Vargas by two points. The margin was a few thousand votes this time.
NBC News reports the balance of power in the House is currently 212-201, with several Congressional races still being counted — including one in Iowa's 1st Congressional District.
The National Republican Congressional Committee issued a statement about Bacon's race:
“Congratulations to Congressman Don Bacon on his re-election victory. Once again, Congressman Bacon has defied political gravity and pulled out a win because Nebraskans know he is a bipartisan, commonsense legislator who works hard in Washington. There is no one better suited to serve Nebraska voters than Don Bacon.”
