(Des Moines, IA) -- A non-citizen Iowa resident has been arrested for voting illegally.

The Iowa Attorney General's office is leading the prosecution of 35-year-old Irving Omar Ahumada Geronimo, living in Greattinger in northwest Iowa. Geronimo is accused of illegally registering to vote and voting in a November, 2021, city council and school board election. He is charged with two counts of election misconduct. The case will take place and be prosecuted in Palo Alto County, where Greattinger is located.

It comes after an audit was released from the Iowa Secretary of State's office earlier this fall, showing illegal voting or illegal voter registration by nearly 80 people in the state. Another list contained over 2,000 names of people subject to provisional ballots, as their citizenship status wasn't clear.
