(Iowa City, IA) -- A University of Iowa professor says recent concerns over fluoride in the water supply are overstated.

Dr. Steven Levy, a professor of Preventive and Community Dentistry says fluoride is naturally occurring in water.

He says recent studies showing it can slow the mental development of children cite levels that are double the amount that is actually added to tap water.

A recent court ruling used the results of the study to determine that the EPA must consider regulating the addition of fluoride to the drinking water supply.
