(Lincoln, NE) -- This week's U.S. Drought Monitor map published by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln shows nearly all of the state (94%) in drought or near-drought. This week's map shows slight improvement over last week, but there are still some areas of extreme drought in northwest Nebraska (9%) and northeast Nebraska. Most of the state is severe drought.
The map today does not include rainfall this week. Some areas picked over 1" of rain.
The National Weather Service in Valley, NE says the next chance for soaking and potentially heavy rains comes late Sunday night into Monday.
