(Johnston, IA) -- One Iowa mayor is logging miles to raise food donations throughout the month of December.
Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld is once again on a Run for Food, pledging to run one mile for every bag of food or ten dollars donated to the Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community. The city says over $81,000 has been raised over the ten years the initiative has taken place. Dierenfeld's goal this year is 2,500 miles.
Last year, the long-serving Johnston mayor ran just over 2,328 miles. The Johnston Partnership says it now serves 2,700 families monthly.
Donations can be dropped off directly or at the Holidays at the Town Center event this coming Saturday, December 7th.
