Human Remains Found In Submerged Truck In Mississippi River Identified

(Rock Island Co, IL) -- Human remains found in a submerged stolen pick-up truck in the Mississippi River in East Moline have been identified.

The Rock Island County Coroner confirms the remains belong to Daniel L Claeys, who was reported missing from East Moline in 2019.

The truck, which was reported stolen from East Moline in 2017, found buried deep in mud near Empire Park, was recovered on September 15 by the Big River Rescue and Recovery Team.

The East Moline Police Department says they were notified by the Rock Island County Coroner's office that the remains had been identified by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab through DNA analysis.

Investigators are still looking into Claeys disappearance and cause of death.
