Name Released In Washington County Officer-Involved Shooting

There is new information in an officer-involved shooting during a traffic stop in Washington County.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the shooting that involved deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The Patrol says the suspect who was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with sheriff's deputies in Arlington is identified as 48-year -old David Boettcher of Omaha.

Investigators say Monday afternoon, a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy made a traffic stop in Arlington.

During the stop, the vehicle was occupied by a female driver, male passenger, and a 1-year-old child.

Deputies arrested the driver for driving under suspension.

Investigators say David Boettcher was a passenger, and he had an active felony warrant for assault.

State troopers say the preliminary investigation shows that Boettcher refused to cooperate with deputies, who noticed Boettcher had a firearm.

After several minutes, Boettcher got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and began firing shots toward the deputies, who returned fire, striking the suspect.

Deputies then attempted to render aid to Boettcher, who continued resisting.

A trooper arrived to assist, and Boettcher was taken into custody and to a hospital in Omaha with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

No deputies were hurt.

The Patrol says a handgun used by Boettcher was recovered.

The child was not injured and has been placed in protective care.
