(Des Moines, IA) -- Gas prices have jumped to start the week across Iowa. The price is up by nearly 14 cents since last Monday, to a statewide average of $2.88 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. Regionally, Des Moines is hovering around $2.78 per gallon, while the Quad Cities are at $2.88. Council Bluffs is right around $2.62.

Nationally, the average price is down just a little over a penny over the past seven days.

The hikes are being attributed to increased sanctions against Iran and other "dark vessel" countries by the Biden administration.
