(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Cedar Rapids Community School Board is spending $7.5 million to buy 50 acres of land for a new middle school.

The site, located just north of Highway 100, between Collins and Blairs Ferry Roads will be the home of a new school to replace Harding Middle School.

The board says the purchase won't cause taxes to increase. They say they're using leftover Physical Plant and Equipment Levy funds for the purchase.

But construction of the $90-million middle school is dependent on a bond vote later this year.
