(Des Moines, IA) -- As week one wraps up at the Iowa State Capitol building, so too are the first meetings of committees in the House of Representatives and Senate. This week consisted of them officially approving committee rules and outlining what their session will look like.

Rep. Jane Bloomingdale (R-Worth County) is serving as chair of the House's State Government committee, and she spoke in its first meeting Wednesday.

"Democrats, Republicans, everybody," Bloomingdale says. "Let's feel free to discuss bills and point out good, bad and indifferent and then move forward."

The deadline for bills to report out of committee, also known as the first funnel, is set for March 7th.
