The Iowa Attorney General's office says Des Moines Police were justified in shooting and killing a suspect on the city's Southeast side in early February.

Officers were watching a car as part of a drug investigation on February 6, when a masked man, later identified as David Leroy Kintz Jr., left the passenger seat with a duffel bag.

Two patrol officers stopped Kintz and attempted to search him, before he grabbed a screwdriver from his pocket and stabbed at an officer's head and neck.

Both officers opened fire, hitting him. Kintz later died at a hospital.
