Des Moines Police are releasing bodycam footage from a fatal February officer-involved shooting, after the Iowa Attorney General and Polk County Attorney both ruled officers were justified in the use of lethal force.

Officers were watching a car as part of a drug investigation on February 6, when a masked man, later identified as David Kintz Jr., left the passenger seat with a duffel bag.

Two other patrol officers, later identified as Officer Titus Deford and Officer Neal Shaffer, approach Kintz as he's walking on the 1200 block of Maury Street. In the footage, Kintz is seeing putting his hands in his pockets multiple times, leading Deford to ask him to keep his hands where he can see them.

Officers attempt to search Kintz, who tells police he has a screwdriver in his pocket. He then lunges at Shaffer with the screwdriver, leading both officers to open fire with their handguns. Kintz is hit, and later dies of his injuries at a hospital.
