Police identify six-year-old who died after being pulled from Altoona pond

A six-year-old boy with severe autism who was pulled from a pond in Altoona has died.

Altoona Police confirmed the news to our newsroom on Wednesday.

Officers originally responded to a Hy-Vee at 108 8th St. SW in Altoona on a report of a missing child on Tuesday afternoon.

After more than 40 minutes of searching, the boy was found in a nearby body of water and first responders starting performing CPR.

He was later pronounced dead at a Des Moines hospital.

UPDATE, 5PM:

Altoona Police have identified the six-year-old boy as Elliot Shur of Altoona.
