(Madison County, IA) — The Madison County Auditor is resigning following public outcry and a state investigation into her attempt to hire her former campaign manager.

In a Facebook post, Teri Kaczinski stated that she had faced harassment from the media and a small group of individuals intent on disrupting the work of the Madison County Auditor’s Office. Her resignation comes one month after Madison County Sheriff Jason Barnes requested that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation look into Kaczinski’s hiring practices.

Kaczinski’s resignation is effective July 4.
