(Omaha, NE)Â -- Today, Tuesday May 13th, is Election Day for voters to choose Omaha's Mayor and five City Council Members.
Incumbent Jean Stothert and Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing Jr. are the mayoral candidates on the ballot.
There is also an amendment to the city charter for voters to decide.
If approved, the amendment to the City of Omaha Charter will change how city council vacancies are filled. If the vacancy occurs in the first two years of a council member's term, there would be an election by the voters. If the vacancy occurs in the last two years of their term, the city council would vote to fill the seat.
Polls for Election Day voting are open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Bus rides are free Tuesday during the Omaha City Election. Metro buses and rapid transit routes are fare-free. MOBY mobility and disability transit rides are also free.
Heartland Bike Share is offering one-dollar bike passes good for 24 hours today for Election Day using the code VOTE25.
